How to Prevent Losing Money <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Your dental insurance plan likely has what\u2019s called an\nannual maximum, which is the highest dollar amount that the insurance company\nwill pay for your dental care within the calendar year. Here\u2019s a not-so-fun\nfact: only about 3 percent of all people with dental insurance even come close\nto meeting their annual maximum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This way, your\ndentist can diagnose and treat problems while they\u2019re still small. Also, regular teeth cleanings keep\nyour pearly whites healthy and prevent plaque from building up on them and\ncausing tooth decay and gum disease. However, if you don\u2019t have dental\ninsurance, there is another way to pay for dental care.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flexible Spending Account (FSA)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An FSA is an account that lets an employee get reimbursed\nfor various medical expenses. They are classified as tax-exempt savings\naccounts, meaning that no employment or federal income taxes are deducted from\ncontributions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While traditional dental insurance is focused on preventive\nmeasures, an FSA may cover anything that prevents OR treats a dental disease.\nThis can include treatments like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Teeth cleanings <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Fillings and sealants <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Crowns, bridges, or dentures <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Bonding <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Root canals and tooth extractions <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Treatments for gum disease, TMJ disorder, and
    oral surgery <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Cosmetic treatments, like teeth whitening and porcelain veneers,\nare unfortunately not typically covered by most dental insurance of FSAs, since\nit\u2019s a matter of your appearance, not your health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Much like traditional dental insurance, FSA benefits do NOT\nroll over into the next year. This means that if you\u2019ve only seen your dentist\nonce this year, now is the perfect time so you can get the care you need and\nsave money while doing it! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
